Using in-app navigation during a trip

Last updated March 2, 2026

GoRoute provides built-in turn-by-turn navigation that activates automatically when you accept a ride request. You can also use a preferred third-party navigation app if you find it more reliable in your area.

Built-in navigation

GoRoute's default navigation uses real-time traffic data to calculate the fastest route to the pickup location and then to the rider's destination. Directions appear as a banner at the top of your screen with voice prompts for upcoming turns. The route updates dynamically if traffic conditions change or if you miss a turn.

Switching to a third-party app

If you prefer Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps, you can set your preferred navigation app in Account > App Settings > Navigation. Once configured, tapping the navigation banner during a trip will open your chosen app with the destination pre-loaded. When the trip is complete, you'll be returned to the GoRoute app automatically.

Preferred routes

In some situations, you may know a faster or more efficient route than the one suggested. You're free to deviate from the recommended path, but keep in mind that the rider can see the suggested route on their app. If you take a significantly different route, it's good practice to let the rider know why — for example, to avoid construction or heavy traffic. The fare is calculated based on the original estimated route, not the actual path taken, unless the rider changes the destination.

Reporting navigation issues

If you encounter incorrect map data — such as a road that doesn't exist, a one-way street marked incorrectly, or a missing turn — you can report it after the trip by going to Activity > Trip Details > Report a Map Issue. GoRoute reviews these reports and works with map data providers to correct errors, helping improve navigation for all drivers.
