Tax documents and reporting for GoRoute drivers
Last updated January 15, 2026
As an independent contractor driving with GoRoute, you're responsible for reporting your earnings and paying your own taxes. GoRoute provides the documents and tools you need to make this process as straightforward as possible.
Tax forms you'll receive
If you earned $600 or more in a calendar year, GoRoute will issue a 1099-NEC form reporting your non-employee compensation. If you processed more than $5,000 in gross payments, you may also receive a 1099-K. These forms are available by January 31 each year in Account > Tax Info > Tax Documents and are also mailed to the address on file.
Common deductible expenses
As a self-employed driver, you may be eligible to deduct certain business expenses on your tax return. Common deductions for rideshare drivers include:
- Mileage: You can deduct the standard IRS mileage rate for every mile driven for business purposes, or deduct actual vehicle expenses (gas, maintenance, depreciation). You cannot claim both.
- Phone expenses: The portion of your phone bill used for GoRoute driving (data, monthly plan) may be deductible.
- Car washes and cleaning supplies: Keeping your vehicle clean for riders is a legitimate business expense.
- Tolls and parking: Tolls incurred during trips and parking fees while waiting for rides.
- Vehicle insurance: The percentage of your auto insurance premium attributable to business use.
Quarterly estimated taxes
Because GoRoute does not withhold taxes from your earnings, you may need to make quarterly estimated tax payments to the IRS to avoid penalties. These are due in April, June, September, and January. We recommend consulting a tax professional or using IRS Form 1040-ES to calculate your estimated payments.
Keeping good records
GoRoute provides a downloadable annual earnings summary in the Tax Documents section, but we strongly recommend maintaining your own records of mileage, expenses, and receipts throughout the year. Many drivers use mileage tracking apps to log business miles automatically. Good record-keeping simplifies your tax filing and ensures you capture every deduction available to you.
