Vehicle eligibility and inspection requirements

Last updated February 10, 2026

Every vehicle used on the GoRoute platform must meet minimum eligibility requirements and pass an inspection. These standards exist to ensure rider safety and a consistent quality experience.

Basic eligibility requirements

  • The vehicle must be a 4-door car, minivan, or SUV — 2-door vehicles, convertibles, and commercial vehicles are not accepted.
  • The vehicle must be 15 years old or newer (model year 2011 or later for the current year).
  • The vehicle must have valid registration and license plates in the state or province where you'll drive.
  • The vehicle must be covered by auto insurance that meets or exceeds your state's minimum requirements.
  • No salvage or rebuilt titles — only clean title vehicles are eligible.

The inspection checklist

GoRoute's vehicle inspection covers the following areas:

  • Exterior: No major body damage, dents larger than 6 inches, cracked windshield, or broken mirrors/lights.
  • Tires: Adequate tread depth on all four tires (no visible wear bars), properly inflated, no bulges or cuts.
  • Brakes: Responsive brake pedal, no grinding or squealing, functioning parking brake.
  • Lights: All headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals working.
  • Interior: Clean upholstery with no tears or stains, functioning seat belts for all seats, working air conditioning and heating.
  • Dashboard: No active warning lights (check engine, ABS, airbag, etc.).

Where to get inspected

GoRoute partners with authorized inspection centers in most cities. You can find the nearest location in Account > Vehicle > Schedule Inspection. In some markets, GoRoute also offers mobile inspections where a certified mechanic comes to your location. Inspections are free for new drivers and typically take 15 to 20 minutes.

If your vehicle doesn't pass

If your vehicle fails the inspection, you'll receive a detailed report listing the items that need to be addressed. Fix the issues and schedule a re-inspection — there's no limit on how many times you can retry. Once your vehicle passes, your account will be updated and you can begin driving within 24 hours.
