How the driver rating system works

Last updated March 7, 2026

GoRoute uses a 5-star rating system that helps maintain quality and trust on the platform. After every trip, riders are prompted to rate their driver on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. Your overall rating is a key indicator of rider satisfaction and influences your eligibility for premium ride types and incentives.

How your average is calculated

Your driver rating is a rolling average of your last 500 rated trips. This means that older ratings gradually fall off as you complete new trips. If you have fewer than 500 rated trips, your average is based on all of your rated trips to date. Not every rider leaves a rating, so your rated trip count may be lower than your total trip count.

What riders rate you on

While riders give a single overall star rating, their perception is shaped by several factors:

  • Navigation: Taking an efficient route without unnecessary detours.
  • Vehicle cleanliness: A clean, well-maintained interior and exterior.
  • Safety: Smooth, attentive driving without sudden stops or aggressive maneuvers.
  • Friendliness: Being courteous and professional. Some riders prefer conversation; others prefer quiet — read the cues.
  • Wait time: Arriving promptly at the pickup location.

Tips to improve your rating

  • Keep your car spotless — vacuum regularly and wipe down surfaces between shifts.
  • Greet riders by name when they get in (it appears on your screen).
  • Offer to adjust the temperature or music.
  • Drive smoothly and follow the navigation unless you know a clearly better route.
  • Thank the rider at the end of the trip.

Minimum rating threshold

GoRoute requires drivers to maintain a minimum average rating, which varies by city but is typically around 4.60 stars. If your rating drops below this threshold, you'll receive a notification and be given time to improve. See our article on what happens when your rating falls below the minimum for details.
